Bluesky limits: 300 characters, 4 photos
What fits in a Bluesky post, and why links and hashtags need a little extra work.
The numbers
| Bluesky | |
|---|---|
| Text | Up to 300 characters (as you see them: an emoji is one) |
| Photos | Up to 4 per post, each up to 1,000,000 bytes (about 976 KB) |
| Video | One per post, up to 3 minutes and 100 MB, MP4 |
| Alt text | On every image |
Links and hashtags
On Bluesky, a link or a hashtag in a post is only clickable if the app marks it (the AT Protocol calls these facets). Apps that paste plain text leave dead links. pickthepost marks every link and hashtag, so they work like they do in the Bluesky app.
Fitting a carousel
A 7-slide Instagram carousel shows its first four pictures on Bluesky, so put the strongest four first. Photos over 976 KB are refused: a 1080 × 1350 JPEG at normal quality is well under.
